Cronulla Nippers

Cronulla Crays is one of Australia’s longest running Junior Surf Lifesaving Clubs, celebrated 50 years of Nippers in 2016-17.  Cronulla Crays is an integral part of developing future lifesavers for the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.

Cronulla Crays Nippers program is designed to teach children between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age, the fundamentals of surf beach and open water safety. Providing a basic knowledge of water safety, which is vital when swimming at the beach.

Based on Surf Life Saving Australia’s National Surf Education program structured specifically to the ages and abilities of the children by gradually teaching them basic lifesaving skills required to be safe around an aquatic environment as well as developing their skills to compete in surf sports in an environment which is fun, encouraging and SAFE.

Nippers are split into Age group’s from Under 6’s (must be 5 by September 30) to Under 14’s (must be 13 by September).

Each Age Group is run by one or two of our many dedicated Age Managers and their assistants. The Age Managers are assisted by specialist coaches who coach them in the areas of sprints, boards, wading, and swimming.

Nippers activities are aimed at building lifesaving and leadership skills and it is a training ground for tomorrow’s lifesavers.

Crays are an integral part of the Cronulla Surf Club which has a proud tradition in surf sports dating back to our formation in 1907. Cronulla has produced many State, National and World Champions. In addition Cronulla has won many State, National and World Championship pointscores.
