Age Group Information

Listed below are the age groups that members will be in for the 2018/19 season if they are born between the following dates:

  • U6*  1st October 2012 to 30th September 2013
  • U7    1st October 2011 to 30th September 2012
  • U8    1st October 2010 to 30th September 2011
  • U9    1st October 2009 to 30th September 2010
  • U10  1st October 2008 to 30th September 2009
  • U11  1st October 2007 to 30th September 2008
  • U12  1st October 2006 to 30th September 2007
  • U13  1st October 2005 to 30th September 2006
  • U14  1st October 2004 to 30th September 2005

* Note: Children must be at least 5 years before they can be registered.  They can still start after the season commences, as soon as they turn 5.  This is a national standard

Compulsory for All Age Groups

  • It is compulsory for all nippers to wear a HIGH VIS PINK VEST, the topmost layer cannot be covered by any other clothing
  • Parents/Carers MUST be with their child at ALL times
  • All children must sign ON before each Sunday morning & sign OFF at the finish each day. You must advise your Age managers if leaving early
  • Children are to wear their Age Group Coloured Cap during Nippers; these identify which age group they are in. The caps MUST be removed at the completion of Nippers
  • Children can wear a Rash Shirt under the Vest whilst at Nippers
  • Sunscreen is applied prior to the start of Nippers

PHOTOS

  • If wishing to take photos of your child, PLEASE advise the Age managers & other parents within the group prior to doing so
  • If you notice someone taking photos who shouldn’t be, please notify your Age managers, a Committee Member &/or a Patrol Person

 

BEACH SET UP, PULL DOWN AND BBQ DUTY

  • There will be ONE day during the season when your Age Group will be rostered on to do COMPULSORY duty to assist with the smooth running of the Club
  • Duties included “Beach Set Up/Pull Down”, “BBQ Duties” & “Clean Up”. Age managers will advise of your responsibilities, so please assist your Group & work together to make the day successful. We hope you & your child enjoy the Cronulla experience, our aim is to organize “Safe Family Fun” days for all to enjoy

Competition

  • Competition Starts from Under 8 Age group upwards
  • Branch & State Carnivals are invitation events & persons are chosen by the Team manager & Selection Committee
  • CLUB COSTUME AND COMPETITION CAP MUST BE WORN AT ALL CARNIVALS

 

Under 6 & 7 – no competition

Under 8 – Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, and Wade & Pool Swim

Under 9 – Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim and Board

Under 10 – Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim and Board

Under 11- Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim, Board and Iron-person

Under 12 – Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim, Board and Iron-person

Under 13 –  Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim, Board and Iron-person. There are also team events such as Beach Sprint Relays, Surf Teams, Board Rescue, Board Relay & 2 Person R & R available

Under 14 –  Nipper Club Championship – Point-score events will be held at Cronulla for this age group, these events include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim, Board and Iron-person. There are also team events such as Beach Sprint Relays, Surf Teams, Board Rescue, Board Relay & 5 Person R & R available

 

Under 6 – Cronulla SLSC

  • In accordance with Surf Life Saving Australia there is no competition for Under 6 & 7 at Cronulla. The program is designed to be fun for all
  • During Nippers at Cronulla the children will do water activities in the Club Swimming Pool & sometimes the Rock pool, your child is welcome to use Eye Goggles if they wish, BUT these are the responsibility of the Parent/Carer
  • During events in the pool & out on the beach, it is requested that parents assist the Age managers when asked. (Parent helpers MUST be financial members of the club)
  • Cronulla SLSC give the children some education regarding Water & the Surf, however it is the Parents’ responsibility to have their child taught to swim

 

Under 7 – Cronulla SLSC

  • In accordance with Surf Life Saving Australia there is no competition for Under 6 & 7 at Cronulla. The program is designed to be fun for all
  • During Nippers at Cronulla, the children will do water activities in the Club Swimming Pool & sometimes the Rock pool, your child is welcome to use Eye Goggles if they wish, BUT these are the responsibility of the Parent/Carer
  • During events in the pool & out on the beach, it is requested that parents assist the Age managers when asked. (Parent helpers MUST be financial members of the club)
  • Cronulla SLSC give the children some education regarding Water & the Surf, however it is the Parents’ responsibility to have their child taught to swim

 

Under 8 – Cronulla SLSC

  • This age group can experience Competition if desired at outside Carnivals. It is not compulsory, but the Club does encourage attendance. The events available for the Under 8’s include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags & Shallow Water Wade. There are also team events such as Beach Sprint Relay & Wade Relay. (Teams will be selected by the Team Manager)
  • During Nippers at Cronulla the children will do water activities in the Club Swimming Pool & sometimes the Rock pool, your child is welcome to use Eye Goggles if they wish, BUT these are the responsibility of the Parent/Carer
  • During wades and events in the rock pool & on the beach, it is requested that parents assist the Age managers when asked. (Parent helpers MUST be financial members of the club)
  • Cronulla SLSC give the children some education regarding Water & the Surf, however it is the Parents’ responsibility to have their child taught to swim
  • Children will also need to do a Preliminary Skills Evaluation/ Proficiency this entails a 25m Swim (any stroke) & 1 minute survival float

 

 

 

Under 9 – Cronulla SLSC

The events available for the Under 9’s & 10’s include Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, Surf Swim & Board. There are also team events such as Beach Sprint Relays, Surf Teams & Board Relay. (Teams will be selected by the Team Manager)
  • Children are encouraged to carry their own bag with them; this should include Towel, Drink Bottle, Goggles & extra Sunscreen
  • During Nippers at Cronulla the children will do water activities in the Club Swimming Pool & sometimes the Rock pool, your child is welcome to use Eye Goggles if they wish, BUT these are the responsibility of the Parent/Carer

Nippers achieving this level (Pool Swim) will also need to complete an “Open Water Swim” to qualify to compete at carnivals
  • This age group uses Foam Boards; they cost $450 each, so we ask that care be taken when carrying them to the beach & during use. Please make sure they are returned to the Gear Shed after Nippers

 

 

Under 10 – Cronulla SLSC

DEVELOPMENT CAMP:

  • Each year, selected U11 children participate in an age Development Camp conducted by Surf Life Saving Sydney. Children are selected for these camps not on their ability but on their attitude. Age managers look at their approach, enthusiasm, willingness to be part of a team, participation, attendance and other positive attributes.

Under 12 – Cronulla SLSC

  • This age group can experience Competition if desired at outside Carnivals. It is not compulsory, but the Club does encourage attendance. FUNDRAISING

  • This is also the season for fundraising for the Under 14 trip away next season. We ask all children & parents to be pro-active during this time. The money raised goes to the children’s tour
  • Previous Tours have organized Fund Raising by
  • Operating the Slushy machine each Sunday (Run by the Children with 1 adult to oversee)

 PATROLS

  • Once an SRC is achieved an Under 14 is expected to do patrols. For the first few weeks Paul Cavanagh will be Coordinating all Under 14’s on patrol. When attending a PATROL, you must be dressed in correct uniform (Cap, Shirt and Shorts) You must make yourself known to the Patrol Captain and Sign On in the Patrol Book correctly as an SRC member please print your name clearly, if your name can’t be read clearly you will not be credited with the hours. During Patrol you will be under the guidance of the Patrol Captain and MUST do as reasonably requested. At the completion of Patrol (or earlier if required) you MUST sign Off (In the Patrol Log Book) and advise the Patrol Captain that you are leaving. If you are allocated to a Patrol which falls during Nipper hours, Nippers is to take priority on completion of nippers you are then to sign on to your roster patrol. If you attend Patrol over nippers you will not be allocated Nipper attendance for that day
  • Remember: Your role is to serve on the Beach whilst on Patrol and you are representing your Club. So please make sure that you act in a professional manner. We look forward to seeing you in the Red and Yellow
